This is one of those times.
I have been deeply drawn to the music and artistry of Donny Hathaway for more than a week now. I am very familiar with his music and his story. I have been listening to his powerful voice for as long as I can remember. For some reason though in the last week or more I have really needed to hear his voice and I have really been taking in the messages of his songs. Since I was a child, I have always expressed myself through the music I listen to. I have always felt that the Universe knows exactly the type of music I need to hear for clarity, comfort and encouragement. It is very spiritual for me.
So, I am thinking that with all that has been happening in the world lately, such as the shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina, the burning of Black Churches, violence in Sudan, financial crisis in Greece -
Brother Donny's voice bring moments of clarity, understanding and light to me.
"Someday We'll All Be Free" is the song of the day. I am so grateful that Brother Donny and Edward Howard took the time and energy to record this song and leave for us to reflect on during times like these. I am so grateful that I will have this song to lean on anytime to feel encouraged.
Today, Brother Donny's music has been a pure breath of fresh air to my spirit. His music is soul music, and in my opinion he is truly a soul rebel. He sings "Take it from me, someday we'll all be free" throughout the song.
That I will do Brother Donny, that I will do -
